Inspection traveler Storebelt West Bridge
The Storebelt West bridge is comprised by two separate bridges, one for rail and one road, with common foundation on the seabed.
HMV supplied a traveler that had one rail on each bridge and traveled by the means of diesel or electrical powered hydraulic drive system. The horizontal arm can swing 360 deg. and has a custom designed lift at the end that give access to all surfaces of the brides. A basket can be lowered along the support pillars.
Safety during erection was a major issue as the rails had to be brought by truck and unloaded on the 130 km/h roadway. Working close to the railway was critical.
I was leading HMV’s pre-qualification and negotiations with the Client and sub-contractors. During the project I was HMV's Project Manager for the design and supply of the 32 ton traveler. The supply included supply and installation of the 7-km long rail system.
